After Chi’s death, Sophia had to pick up the pieces of her life amid a devastating loss. She was left to organize all his business interests, the photography archive, and varied artists ephemera under one.
The artist and now his representative are not the same. “We work differently, think differently, and I am not an artist. I am not a photographer, I rarely take photographs. But now I have to appropriately represent him and he kept his brand strong. I am up to the task.”
Hence, the Chi Modu Brand was born in 2022, it keeps all the varied business entities, projects, artist ephemera, and photography archives under one. The daunting task of legal battles, finalizing his estate, securing his imagery and assorted items directly connected to his art made perfect sense. The one thing she kept in the forefront of her mind, was legacy. Chi didn’t work, fight all these years to maintain ownership of his art to lose it. Sophia considers herself the caretaker of the Estate for their two children. “This will be theirs for a long time once they can assume leadership. I operate each day with that in mind.”
I am honored. I was his wife and I am honored to be leading the artist’s business interests.
